How to Facilitate Mental Health Readiness During Transition to Insulin Pump Therapy

Mental health readiness is important when making the transition from a multiple daily injection regimen to insulin pump therapy or hybrid closed loop systems. Diabetes-related distress strongly correlates with general emotional distress, disordered eating, fear of hypoglycemia, short-term and long-term diabetic complications, and increasing Hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C). Federal Policy Update - December 2021 - January 2022

By: Julius W. Hobson, Jr. Physician Medicare Payment Cuts Sequestration is the automatic across-the-board of certain federal government spending. It is generally by a uniform percentage. Physician Medicare payments were scheduled for a 2 percent reduction effective January 1, 2022. However, in December Congress enacted the “Protecting Medicare and American Farmers from Sequestration Cuts Act” [Public Law 117-71]. The new law prevents any payment adjustment through March 31st. In Memoriam: Daniel S. Duick, MD, FACP, MACE, ECNU

Former AACE President, Daniel S. Duick, MD, FACP, MACE, ECNU, passed peacefully, surrounded by family on January 5, 2022. He was an inspiration to the endocrine community as an endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism specialist with more than 55 years of experience in the medical field. Dr. Duick was born in Chicago and grew up in Skokie, Illinois, where he received his primary and secondary education. He attended Loyola University in Chicago and the University of South Dakota, graduating from the latter with a BS and MS degree in Biologic Sciences. He graduated from Northwest University… more
