Dear AACE Community,

As we approach the final months of 2026, I’m pleased to share updates on new AACE clinical guidance, educational opportunities, patient resources, advocacy efforts, and our expanding regional and global engagement. Together, we have accomplished much, and your engagement and feedback continue to shape new resources and tools to support our practices and our patients.

AACE Clinical Guidance Update

AACE clinical guidance documents are highly sought out and read by many national and international endocrinologists. In response to member feedback, we are exploring opportunities, when appropriate, to develop shorter documents focused on specific clinical topics rather than comprehensive guidance covering an entire disease or condition.

Reflecting this emphasis on practical, focused guidance, our 2026 AACE Consensus Statement: Use of Diabetes Technology for Management of Adults with Diabetes was developed to be easy to use and incorporate into everyday clinical practice. It provides patient-centered guidance for shared decision-making between health care professionals and adults with diabetes mellitus in the use of advanced diabetes management technologies.

The consensus statement is publicly accessible online and will be officially published in the November 2026 issue of Endocrine Practice. Thank you to our multidisciplinary task force, led by Chair Janet B. McGill, MD, MA, FACP, MACE, and Vice Chair Amy C. Donihi, PharmD, BC-ADM, FCCP, for their expertise and thoughtful work on this practical resource. Our Clinical Practice Guidelines Oversight Committee will continue to advance the development of more focused AACE clinical guidance documents.

New Resources to Support Every Stage of Your Career

AACE also recognizes that clinical practice presents challenges at every career stage, from early career to midcareer to seasoned practice. We are exploring practical tools to help clinicians address these challenges. I'm pleased to share a few resources we recently launched or have in development for endocrinologists and the entire endocrine care team.

One new resource is our complimentary live virtual AACE Rare Endocrine Diseases Webinar Series. While some of you may be well versed in one of these more unusual metabolic conditions, the series will give an opportunity for all to become more familiar with diagnosing and managing these diseases. The webinars will take place every Friday at 1:00 PM Eastern from Oct. 2-Nov. 6 and feature live Q&A with AACE experts on these more unusual endocrine conditions, including post-bariatric hypoglycemia, lipodystrophy, X-linked hypophosphatemia, Cushing’s syndrome and type 2 diabetes, acromegaly, and severe hypertriglyceridemia in familial chylomicronemia syndrome. Participants will gain practical strategies for recognizing clinical manifestations and diagnostic challenges, applying evidence-based treatment approaches, and developing individualized care plans that incorporate interventions, patient education, monitoring, and integrating guideline-based recommendations into clinical practice.

We are also preparing to launch a new patient resource, the AACE Patient Guide to Acromegaly, developed with the support of AACE clinical advisors and our patient partner organization known as the Acromegaly Community. This patient-friendly resource will cover common signs and symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options, ongoing management and questions patients can ask their care team. It will also include a clinician-focused FAQ section with answers to common questions about recognition and referral, biochemical diagnosis, imaging, treatment, and counseling. The guide will help people living with acromegaly better understand their condition and engage in shared decision-making with their care team. I encourage you to share it with your patients once it is available in late October.

Our committees, disease state networks and staff continue to expand learning opportunities, including new AACE Self-Assessment Program (ASAP) microlearning, case-based courses and certificate programs. Explore our latest resources and educational opportunities to find courses and practical tools that support your practice and your patients throughout every stage of your career.

Celebrating the First AACE Diabetes Center of Excellence

It is also my honor to share that we recently recognized American Hospital Dubai as the first institution to receive the AACE Diabetes Center of Excellence designation. American Hospital Dubai was accepted as the inaugural recipient for demonstrating its use of evidence-based clinical guidance, commitment to strong leadership and collaborative approach to delivering high-quality diabetes care that improves outcomes for adults living with diabetes. Congratulations to the American Hospital Dubai team on this important milestone!

Global Engagement

Our global educational engagement also continues to grow through AACE’s participation in programs in India, Mexico, South America and other global locations, creating opportunities to share expertise and learn from colleagues worldwide. Building on this work, AACE will participate in a symposium during the Sociedad Mexicana de Nutrición y Endocrinología (SMNE) Annual Conference, taking place November 9-14. The AACE Symposium on November 12 will feature Dr. Michael Irwig speaking on transgender health and Dr. Malini Gupta addressing climate change and endocrine disruptors, highlighting important and emerging topics in endocrinology.

I’m also pleased to share that the AACE Thyroid Ultrasound Workshop returns to American Hospital Dubai-Oud Metha on Nov. 19, the day before the AACE MENA Conference. The workshop offers hands-on training to strengthen thyroid and neck ultrasound skills and marks the second consecutive year we have offered this program outside our Annual Meeting. AACE CEO Johnnie White and I look forward to connecting with our global community in Dubai.

Advancing Advocacy

Supporting you in practice also means advocating for policies that allow you to provide comprehensive, high-quality care. AACE responded to proposed Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Physician Fee Schedule changes, including laboratory fees and coverage for services provided during the same patient visit. We also joined an American Medical Association sign-on letter raising concerns about proposed changes to the 2027 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule that could reduce payments when physicians provide multiple services during one encounter. These changes could place additional financial pressure on endocrine practices caring for patients with complex, chronic conditions. We continue to advocate for fair reimbursement and policies that support coordinated patient care.

We also advocated for evidence-based care for service members in response to a new testosterone screening program for those age 30 and older serving in the military. In a letter to military health leaders, including Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, we called for clear standards for testing, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and fertility counseling. Ten other medical organizations signed on in support.

To help you engage in these efforts, we are developing a new AACE Advocacy Podcast Series, with one episode planned each month beginning in October. Topics will include state, regional and grassroots advocacy; practical and effective advocacy skills; navigating prior authorization and formulary barriers; and access to diabetes technology. We look forward to sharing the first episode with you in mid-October.

AACE experts also continue to serve as trusted voices on endocrine health, contributing their perspectives to recent coverage from NPR, AARP, Medscape, Healthline and other national media outlets. I invite you to visit AACE in the News to explore the latest coverage and learn how AACE is helping bring evidence-based endocrine information to broader audiences.

AACE Annual Meeting 2027

Looking ahead, I’m pleased to share that preparations are well underway for AACE Annual Meeting 2027. Save the date to join us May 14-16, 2027, at the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina in San Diego. Our theme, "Endocrinology Throughout the Lifespan," will guide the entire program, with sessions exploring endocrine care across every stage of life.

I also invite you to submit your abstract for the opportunity to present your endocrinology research, clinical trial or case study at AACE Annual Meeting 2027 and have your abstract published in Endocrine Practice. Abstract submissions close Dec. 1 at 11:59 PM EST. Registration will open in October, so watch for more information from AACE.
