Dear AACE Community,
As President of AACE, it is my privilege to share with you a summary of the major actions and key decisions made during the AACE Board of Directors and Board of Trustees meeting on August 15, 2024. These actions reflect our ongoing commitment to advancing the field of endocrinology, fostering innovation, and supporting the professional growth of our members.
Awards Committee
- The Board approved creation of a new award, the Presidents’ Circle Fund Award, to be presented to a 3rd or 4th year domestic medical student with an interest in specializing in endocrinology. This Award will provide up to three (3) $1,500 annual travel awards to AACE’s Annual Meeting. Recipients will also receive complimentary Annual Meeting registration and complimentary engaged membership.
- The Board approved an amendment to the Kahn-Tan-Faiman Frontiers in Science Award Criteria which provides eligibility to individuals who have demonstrated exemplary contributions in basic or translational science to have an enduring impact on clinical endocrinology.
- The Board approved an amendment to the Jeffrey R. Garber, MD, FACP, MACE Fund Award Criteria which provides eligibility to trainees whose research emphasizes clinical endocrinology practice innovation (e.g., cost-effectiveness, guideline implementation, multi-disciplinary approaches, and clinical decision support).
- The Board approved the additional requirements for the Dr. Lewis E. Braverman Endocrine Fellow-in-Training Travel Grant as follows: (i) must remain a member of AACE throughout the clinical extramural rotation, (ii) submit a letter of support from the program director of your current program, and (iii) submit a letter of support from the mentor at your extramural rotation site.
- The Board approved an amendment to the Rising Star in Endocrinology Award Criteria which provides eligibility for a physician who is within 10-years of completing their endocrine fellowship and has demonstrated actionable outcomes in outstanding leadership, teamwork and/or innovation in supporting our mission to elevate clinical endocrinology for global health through contributions in patient care, scientific endeavor and/or education. AACE community membership is required.
FACE Application Committee
- The Board approved a campaign and pathway to encourage members who may have lost their FACE designation to reobtain it.
- The Board approved placing a 3-year lapse period for a member to reapply for FACE reinstatement.
Compensation Committee
- The Board approved increasing the stipend for Annual Meeting speakers beginning in 2025.
- The Board approved additional requirements to the Industry Supported, CME Grant Faculty Honoraria to be more in alignment with industry standards.
Clinical Practice Guidelines Oversight Committee
- The Board approved submission of the “AACE Clinical Practice Guideline for the Pharmacological Management of Adults with Dyslipidemia” to Endocrine Practice for Publication.
Membership
- The Board approved offering medical students with complimentary engaged tier membership effective September 1, 2024.
These decisions underscore our dedication to shaping the future of endocrinology, ensuring that AACE continues to be a trusted resource for our members, patients, partners, and the global endocrine community.
