2021 Cardiometabolic and Lipids Disease State Network Team

Archived: This blog is from our 2021 Cardiometabolic and Lipids Disease State Network

I am honored to serve as the Cardiometabolic and Lipids Disease State Network (DSN) chair this year. I am a professor of medicine at Case Western Reserve Medical School, Vice-Chair of Internal Medicine, and Director for Diabetes and Obesity Center at the University Hospitals. I started my career in Chicago with a clinical research interest in islet cell transplants; I also built a clinical diabetes wellness program for the University of Illinois in Chicago. After moving to the Cleveland Clinic around 2008, I had the pleasure of working under preventive cardiology for cardiometabolic health and general endocrinology. In addition, I was able to continue my research for auto islet cell transplants in pancreatitis patients. I served as the board of governor before accepting my new position at the University hospitals.

During my 25-year career, I was invited to many national and international meetings as a speaker. I was honored to publish my work during this time and met many exceptional, inspiring physicians and scientists during my journey – all who have helped mentor and coach me. I have tremendously enjoyed in return mentoring and coaching future generation scientists and clinicians. My curiosity continues to evolve in clinical science, and I am now also involved in improving diabetes care under the population health umbrella, while enjoying my clinical practice and clinical research activities. I am very grateful to serve as the chair of our DSN lipids network with a fantastic team.

We are lucky to have two vice-chairs part of our DSN lipids network:

Dr. Eliot A. Brinton is the President of the Utah Lipid Center in Salt Lake City, the only lipoprotein apheresis center between Denver and the West Coast. He has co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed scientific publications and invited editorials in several prestigious journals. He serves as an Associate Editor of the Journal of Clinical Lipidology and Section Editor for Current Opinion in Atherosclerosis. Dr. Brinton is the Past President of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology and has co-authored lipid statements and guidelines for the American Heart Association and the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology. He has given more than 3,000 professional presentations on lipids in the US and around the world. He is a fellow of the American Heart Association, National Lipid Association, and American College of Endocrinology. Dr. Brinton is active in cutting-edge research on Familial Hypercholesterolemia and is a steering committee member of the REDUCE-IT and the PROMINENT cardiovascular outcomes trials, two of the first three such trials focusing on patients with elevated triglyceride levels.

Dr. Vishnu Priya Pulipati is a practicing Endocrinologist and Lipidologist at Warren Clinic Endocrinology, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She also serves as Vice-Chair for the American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, Lipids, and Cardiovascular health disease state network. Dr. Pulipati earned her medical degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, in Belgaum, Karnataka, India. She graduated with the highest honors as the best outgoing student of the batch. She attended clinical clerkships as an international student at Harvard Medical School, Massachusetts General Hospital, in Boston, USA. She then completed her Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Connecticut, in Connecticut, USA. Her passion for treating metabolic disorders led to Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism Fellowship at Rush University Medical Center, in Chicago, USA. During her training, she developed an interest in a multi-disciplinary approach to cardiometabolic diseases and cardiovascular disease prevention. She pursued an additional advanced fellowship in Preventive Cardiology/Lipidology at the University of Chicago Medicine, USA. Dr. Pulipati is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Endocrinology, and Clinical Lipidology. Her interests include lipid disorders, cardiovascular disease prevention, diabetes mellitus, adrenal, pituitary, thyroid, gonadal, and neuroendocrine disorders. She channeled her interests into publishing articles for leading medical journals, writing editorials, presenting award-winning posters, and contributing to chapters in various areas of Endocrinology and Lipidology. Her passion is to advance the field of cardiometabolic medicine with patient care, education, and awareness.
