CEO November Highlights

Dear AACE Community,

As we approach the final months of 2024 and look ahead to an exciting 2025, I would like to take a moment to highlight key updates from the past month and share new opportunities that reflect our commitment to achieving healthier communities through endocrine innovation, education, and care.

CEO Engagement

Last month brought several key developments for AACE in both the legislative and public health arenas. I was honored to participate in the ASAE Congressional Breakfast, where I facilitated an open discussion with Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) who provided valuable insights on upcoming legislative priorities. As a former association professional and current member of the Ways and Means Committee in Congress, which oversees tax policy, Rep. Carey is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping tax reform legislation in 2025. We look forward to future collaboration with him on advocacy efforts that will benefit endocrine patient care.

We also hosted our inaugural live virtual Advocacy Training Program on October 18. This free event was designed to empower endocrinologists, endocrine care team members, industry professionals, and patient advocates with the knowledge, strategies, and tools to become an effective advocate for endocrine issues such as improved access to endocrine care. Our 22 presenters covered all aspects of navigating the legislative process, collaborating with stakeholders, leveraging public awareness campaigns, and empowering patients in advocacy efforts. I’m pleased to share that 96% of our live attendees reported feeling prepared to participate in advocacy initiatives. You can now access the valuable on-demand sessions for free here.

Shifting focus from legislation to public health, I attended a program hosted by The Economist in New York, which addressed the growing global threat of Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH). These events reflect our commitment to staying engaged in conversations that impact clinical endocrinology and global health.

Also, I had the opportunity to visit with our leaders: President-Elect, Dr. Scott Issacs in Atlanta, GA and Past President, Dr. Sethu Reddy in Cleveland, OH. During my visit with Dr. Issacs I had the pleasure of meeting several of his patients, which offered valuable insights into the daily challenges our members face each day in their practice. It was an enlightening experience that will guide me as I lead our team in supporting our members and their patients. In my meeting with Dr. Reddy, I connected with several member from the Cleveland Clinic, gaining further understanding of how our members navigate working within a hospital health system. Both experiences were incredibly enriching.

AACE Awards: 2025 Call for Nominations

One of the highlights of our Annual Meeting is the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary achievements and outstanding contributions of individuals within our community by presenting AACE Awards. Award recipients are acknowledged for their contributions to clinical excellence, education and research, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and community involvement. This year, I’m pleased to share that we are introducing the new AACE Past Presidents' Circle Fund Award, which offers a $1,500 travel stipend to up to three domestic 3rd or 4th year medical students interested in pursuing a specialty in endocrinology. This award was made possible by the generosity of AACE’s current and past presidents. Nominations for the 2025 AACE Awards are now open through December 13, 2024. You can begin the nomination process by reviewing the current list of awards and criteria here.
