Guideline on the Management of Persons with Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

Call for chair, vice chair, authors, and a methodology fellow to participate in development of an AACE Clinical Practice Guideline Update on the Management of Persons with Postmenopausal Osteoporosis

Submissions open: May 2 - June 6, 2024

AACE is seeking a chair, vice chair, authors, and a methodology fellow to update the 2020 Clinical Practice Guideline for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Postmenopausal Osteoporosis. This guideline will be an official AACE guidance document that reflects the mission and positions of AACE and will follow a rigorous process based on National Academy of Medicine (formerly Institute of Medicine) standards and the most recent AACE protocol for guidance development. This guideline will address specific clinical questions and provide recommendations to improve patient-important outcomes based on systematic review and assessment of evidence, benefits, and harms, using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) framework.

To support the more extensive development process, this guideline task force will include an evidence review team with a staff methodologist, methodology fellow, medical librarian, and GRADE consultant. The evidence review team will support the task force to successfully implement the GRADE methodology framework to ensure trustworthiness of the guideline and to facilitate implementation of the recommendations.

Authors should be current AACE members in good standing, active in practice, and able to commit to 1 to 2 years of development. Applicants must maintain AACE membership at the appropriate level throughout the development process and complete required disclosure and committee forms per AACE policy.

Approved task force members must participate in video conferences, submit assignments via email, fulfill ICMJE criteria for authorship, and adhere to the AACE Conflict of Interest Policy.

The chair and vice chair will oversee development of the guideline from scoping to publication, lead development and meetings with the task force, and ensure that the guideline reflects best practice based on evidence and that the project is completed within assigned timeline for submission to Endocrine Practice. AACE will provide level-one INGUIDE training on evidence-based methods for the chair and vice chair. Completion of this training is required.

Authors will participate fully in development, providing input on scope and questions, reviewing and approving evidence profiles developed by methodologists, writing assigned sections, and participating in discussions to achieve consensus on content.

The methodology fellow will fully participate on the task force and receive authorship, developing evidence profiles with the evidence review team among other assignments that support training in evidence-based medicine and GRADE.
