AACE members,
Thank you to those that were able to join our virtual annual business meeting this past Friday. Many of you know how challenging it was to find an alternative to our normal in-person and we sincerely thank each of the more than 200 members that joined us online for your passion and enthusiasm for AACE.
The meeting included reports on elections, membership, and finances, followed by the Secretary’s report on proposed bylaws amendments. The report included 11 proposed bylaws amendments. Due to time constraints we were only able to address two of those amendments and take a vote on a single amendment. Members in attendance approved an amended recommendation to amend the language of the introduction of the bylaws - which now states as follows: The following constitute the Bylaws of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, Inc., a 501(c)(6) corporation, incorporated under the laws of the state of Florida, organized to enhance the abilities of physicians specializing in endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism to provide the highest quality of patient care. The omitted words were "its members".
Ultimately, during discussion of the second recommendation, the meeting ended on a member motion to suspend debate.
While well intended, it became evident that the virtual meeting format we attempted was neither an effective venue for debate and communication, nor was it an appropriate platform for so many of us to work together in a collaborative fashion. The Board of Directors has determined that it will not schedule a conclusion to this meeting, as a result we will not pursue the proposed bylaws changes. We will plan to have our next Annual Business Meeting during our Annual Meeting and Clinical Congress in May of 2021.
We appreciate all of your comments and we will consider them as we evaluate a path forward. If you have any questions you can always contact one of the members of the AACE Board of Directors, or send an email to [email protected] .
Thank you for your membership. Together, we are AACE.
