Dear Friends,
Thirteenth century poet, Rumi, espoused that GRATITUDE is wine for the soul. If so, I am truly happily drunk. It has been an honor to serve AACE the past many months, with the support of our Board of Directors, our Executive Committee and Executive Leadership Team and our passionate staff. I particularly want to thank the hundreds of volunteers who energize AACE to deliver on our mission.
Our families and friends who enable us to contribute to AACE’s success deserve special recognition. Without their understanding, none of our work is possible.
It has been a challenging eighteen months but AACE has been able to come through stronger and unified in our vision for the future. The Board has been ever-vigilant and reflective and always supporting strategy to do the right thing. In the history of AACE, We not only have the highest diversity on the AACE Board as well as within our staff, but we also value diversity in thought.
AACE continues to advocate not only for our members but for our patients as well. We’ve made significant contributions to patient access to CGM, insulin and insulin pumps and supported initiatives to support practicing physicians. We advocated for better training for other members of the endocrine care team, for preservation of the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship, better recognition of US guided FNA biopsies and supporting the recognition of RFA of thyroid nodules. We’ve strongly voiced our support of maintaining thyroid and neck ultrasound as a core element of endocrinology fellowship programs.
Our guidance documents are the best ever and always pragmatic, whether it is Fatty liver disease, diabetes, obesity or other endocrine disorders.
We continue to serve our patients with AACE’s wonderful Patient Journey Program in thyroid, obesity and coming soon, diabetes technology. There have been millions of hits to this content since launching last year. AACE continues to be an exemplary partner for CDC’s program to increase vaccination rates in the country.
Endocrine Practice has reached new heights and has it highest impact factor in its history. Our pre-eminent volunteer members and our staff have embarked on exciting initiatives in fostering better collaboration with our industry partners, in providing a platform for members of our endocrine care team, (NPs, PAs, and others) to receive the highest caliber of clinical endocrine training, and to re-vitalize our membership in the US and abroad.
My personal theme for my term has been “building bridges” to our current and past colleagues, to members of the modern endocrine care team, to our industry partners and to our distinguished past leaders and emeritus members. I encourage all our members to reach out and ask your colleagues to make AACE their HOME for clinical endocrinology.
AACE is moving fast into the hot issues of today and tomorrow. Be on the lookout to join AACE communities for artificial intelligence and environmental endocrinology. In this fast moving area of healthcare, AACE will be the leader in evidence-based clinical information.
On behalf of AACE, I want to thank our interim CEO, Ms. Suzanne Berry for helping AACE with full vim and vigor. Suzanne’s experience has been invaluable as the Board and staff have navigated the many challenges of 2023. What’s on the horizon at AACE? As you may have heard,… the highly competent CEO Search Committee under the capable leadership of Dr. Susan Samson, in-coming President, the process began with over 180 applicants, culminating in recruiting Mr. Johnnie White as the next CEO of AACE, beginning March 01, 2024. Mr. White is a highly respected and nationally recognized administrator and leader who will bring AACE to higher levels at home and abroad.
As Dr. Samson, Chair of Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic – Jacksonville, becomes the next President of AACE, we should all be secure knowing that she is a tireless champion for AACE and is committed to continued growth and success of AACE and its members to result in healthier patients. Let us all strive to support her Presidency and AACE as we enter 2024.
